Coffee Sugar Scrub

Here is a terrific holiday gift for the coffee lover in your life that also needs a little bit of pampering.  This simple Coffee Sugar Scrub puts to use your favorite ground coffee grounds with a few other simple items on hand in your home to create a luscious scrub.  Coffee grounds are a great way to exfoliate and the “wake up” smell is perfect to get your day started on a bright note.  Although the recipe below doesn’t specify specific coffee I highly recommend using one of your favorite flavored coffees for a little extra kick.  A rich vanilla or hazelnut coffee ground will add just enough extra warmth of scent to this scrub that will be pleasing to everyone.

  • 1/2 cup Ground Coffee
  • 1/2 cup Used Ground Coffee
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

  • Pour sugar and coffee grounds into medium sized bowl.
  • Mix in coconut oil (add more if you like a wet consistency).
  • Add cinnamon and mix well.
  • Place mixture in the jar.
  • Add this Cute Coffee Sugar Scrub Label if desired

We love this variation on a simple sugar scrub that can be easily customized for your coffee loving friend for a perfect holiday gift.  With simple inexpensive decorative clear plastic jars or containers and a few small ribbon embellishments you can easily customize this scrub into a unique and personalized gift for anyone on your list.  Create a coffee lovers gift basket complete with this great scrub, a small bag of specialty roast coffee, a new custom holiday mug, perhaps a few packets of creamer, sweetener and a beautiful spoon to stir.  Great coffee sugar scrub like this proves that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to create a gift everyone would love to have this holiday season.

DIY Organic Baby Food Pouches

UPDATE from Coupons & Freebies Mom: We shared a guest post from a reader yesterday about DIY Baby Food Pouches. We are removing the content from the DIY Organic Baby Food Pouches guest post based on a comment we received from a reader. Please feel free to research this issue further. Here is a portion of the comment we received:

I run a commercial kitchen where we manufacture baby food. I am all for homemade baby food but this is a very dangerous recommendation. The pouches are NOT meant for reuse! In fact, I have spoken many times with the people who manufacture the pouches. Even they with their high levels of sanitation and pasteurization techniques they have trouble keeping salmonella and other food borne bacterium out of their pouches. There have been recalls from most of the pouch companies. You can google Plum organics recall. This is a dangerous practice and should not be done at home. If a baby gets food poisoning it is deadly. They do not get sick like we do. They end up in the hospital. Please do not recommend this unsafe practice to other parents. It is a deadly accident waiting to happen and I’m really not overstating the direness of this situation.

I realize the pouches are expensive. Buy some ice cube trays and freeze your baby food. It isn’t as convenient as pouches. but it will ensure that babies don’t get very sick.
